"After the first time I hired John Blanchet, I knew
I'd be doing it whenever there was an opportunity
or special event. I first used him for my wife's
birthday, and he excelled in every way; not just a
great chef, but a great person who put real thought
into making the menu work and who made the whole
event warm and memorable. My wife is very
particular about healthy food, and he created a
custom menu that was out of this world, as good as
any restaurant I've eaten at (and I've gone to many
of the best). I've since hired John numerous times,
most recently for a dinner with two other couples,
and it was wonderful. The food was excellent and
the presentation and service were wonderful,
beautiful and elegant but not stuffy or
pretentious."
"The time he puts into the planning and preparation were incredible, and since I wanted to see how he works he invited me along for his shopping excursions and let me watch his prep work while he talked to me (taught me) about cooking. Several of the dishes he made for that night were his on-the-spot inventions based upon the fresh ingredients available, and I found it really interesting to have him explain how he was choosing which flavors to put together. Most of us have some limited ability to do this, especially with familiar foods (olive oil with garlic ...), but he could pull together seemingly disparate items and make something delicious. There simply is no comparison to having a private party at your house and going out to a restaurant. They both have their place, but you owe it to yourself to have the private experience at least once in your life. I think it works best with a small group because of the intimacy, but he would be wonderful for a larger party as well. I've hired other private chefs and caterers, but they have never had the skill John does and if he is available he will clearly be my first choice."
